At Scott Insurance Services Incorporated (“Scott Insurance”), the privacy of personal information has always been a top priority. As new privacy laws come into effect we are taking this opportunity to provide to our clients, potential clients, representatives and business partners, assurance of how and why we have always handled and will continue to handle, personal information at Scott Insurance – with care and discretion. 

 

Collection and Use of Personal Information

The collection, use and disclosure of personal information is fundamental to the life insurance advisory services of Scott Insurance and the insurance products we place. WE collect and use personal information only to the extent necessary for the following purposes:

  • To provide life insurance advisory services
  • To obtain a quote for life insurance from an insurer
  • To assist in the placement of a requested insurance product
  • To complete an application for life insurance
  • To administer insurance coverage we have assisted in placing
  • To comply with legal requirements, such as the laws governing the delivery of financial services
  • To assist in settling insurance claims; and
  • To keep clients aware of new, enhanced or additional life insurance products that we think may be of interest to them.

Clients that would like to obtain more information about our Privacy Policy or who would like to access more information about their personal information held by Scott Insurance Services may contact the Chief Privacy Officer.  

Our clients may always decline or revoke their consent to our use of their personal information to communicate with them about new, enhanced or additional insurance products. This may be done by communicating those preferences in a meeting with us or by contacting our office. We will respect these wishes. However, we will be unable to provide continuing life insurance advisory services to a person who revokes consent and will service only those products we have placed.  [Note: The reason for the changes is grammatical; you can’t mix “an individual” and “they”, “them” or “their”, because “individual” is singular and the other words are plural. 

 

Disclosure of Personal Information

It goes without saying that Scott Insurance does not sell its customer lists or other personal information about clients.

Scott Insurance Services does not sell its customer lists or other personal information about clients under any circumstances at any time.

We recognize the importance of keeping personal information confidential and we only disclose it if required by law; in the event for fraud or criminal activity; or in order to protect the interests of Scott Insurance in civil proceedings.

In addition, we do disclose personal information to assist in placing requested insurance coverage, in settling a claim or as a necessary in the proper administration of a client’s life insurance coverage, in which case we will forward only the necessary information to the appropriate insurance company.


Accuracy of Personal Information

We maintain procedures to ensure that the personal information we collect and use is accurate, up-to-date, and as complete as possible. However, we rely on our clients to disclose all material information to us and to inform us of any changes.


Confidentiality of Personal Information

We treat personal information of our clients as confidential and we do not disclose personal information except as required in accordance with an appropriate authorization, in accordance with this privacy policy and the law. We apply appropriate safeguards to our computer networks and physical files and we restrict access to personal information to those employees who need to know that information in the performance of their job duties.


Retention and Access to Personal Information

We retain personal information only for so long as is necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected and to meet our legal and contractual obligations. If personal information is not longer required, it is destroyed.
